Monroe Rivers, NGS Geodetic Advisor to Retire

Monroe Rivers, the NGS Geodetic Advisor to the State of Kansas is to retire, effective on December 31, 2012. His last day in the office will be December 14, 2012.

Mr. Rivers is a career NGS employee, beginning his employment in June, 1965 with the Coast and Geodetic Survey. His varied work experience has included vertical control circuits, geodetic quality horizontal control surveys with conventional optical equipment and GPS equipment. Since May, 1991 he has served as the NGS Geodetic Advisor to the State of Kansas. The Geodetic Advisor program has been funded in a cost share basis with the Kansas Department of Transportation since January, 1983.
NGS is in the process of developing a Regional Geodetic Advisor Program which will support the NGRS in multiple states. This program is scheduled to begin in 2016. In the interim the survey community is encouraged to use the online resources of the National Geodetic Survey at ngs.noaa.gov

County Road Laws of Kansas - Updated 2011- PDF Version

NOTICE: Follow this link to find the proposed legislative wording changes. As noted, this July 26, 2010 version has been accepted by the KSLS Board, KACS, and the Land Survey Committee of KCHA. Also complies with 2009 KAC legislative platform.

Educational Requirements for Licensure in Kansas

As of May 4, 2010, the KSBTP does not require a 2-year degree to sit for licensure. However, the KSBTP does require that certain curriculum be met. As long as those classes are completed satisfactorily, the person is eligible to sit for the LSIT exam. Butler Community College has instituted an Associate of Science degree in Surveying. Please visit the BCC website for that degree program requirements.

Minimum Standards

These standards were first adopted by the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors at the Annual Meeting in 1978, amended February 1988 and October 23, 1998. It is the intent of these Standards to provide the surveyors and the recipients of surveys a realistic and prudent yardstick of adequate surveying performance. Includes KSLS-approved revisions of 10/17/05 and 10/20/06. Changes in italics were approved by the KSLS Board and ratified by the general membership December 2009 for clarification as requested by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions. The Rules and Regulations that reference these Minimum Standards were adopted by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions on May 24, 2010.
